Easy peasy Mason jar upcycle

Oh Mason jars! They're trendy for upcycling these days. Nothing beats an easy DIY using Mason jars and here's one that's simple, fun and looks awesome! I turned a Mason jar from my recycling bin into a reusable gift package in a jiffy!

First up was painting the Mason jar with acrylic paint... I used a nice bright pink since this project was a sample project for my Springtime Crafternoon with New Westminster Public Library. I added 2  to 3 coats of paint and let it dry.

While the paint dried, I decided to decorate the lid. I used scrap paper that matched the pink paint perfectly! First you trace the outline of the lid insert, then cut out the paper and glue it to the lid insert.

So darn pretty!

I then decided to create a simple DIY gift tag. I used this gift tag I bought from the dollar store as my pattern. And here's more upcycling awesomeness - cardboard from my favourite tea. Recycling bin magic!

Here's the gift tag all ready to go!

Now that the paint was dry, I sanded the paint to create a shabby chic finish.

I then dusted off the powder. Now it was time to coat the paint with Mod Podge.

Once the Mod Podge dried, I was done! Such a cute combo!

An easy peasy gift tag...

And matching lid...

So why not scour your recycle bin for your Mason jars, cereal boxes and more. All the kewl kids are doing it!
