New Westminster Public Library Crafternoon

Last year I got to craft with a new community partner - the lovely peeps at New Westminster Public Library. We set up a free afternoon of festive upcycling for adults on December 17. The question was - what to upcycle?! Well we went with a DIY wreath using upcycled wire hangers and burlap sacs. Perfect!

I lucked out and received a big donation of wire hangers (thanks to my Capilano University coworkers!) and tons of burlap sacs from Mojo Coffee in North Vancouver. I was ready!

We had 20+ participants upcycle wire hangers and burlap into festive wreaths.

There was a wide variety of wreaths created and so many awesome crafty peeps! I even had left over stars from a previous Crafternoon that came in handy.

One participant added bling by using cookie cutters and buttons.

We even had time for another quick DIY - burlap rossettes!

Everyone had a different take on the project.

One of the completed projects.

This sweet couple had a craft date with me. They rocked it!

Here are their projects - the guy's wreath used a repurposed project from my crafty book.

Happy crafters! Loved my New Westminster Public Library peeps!

Great use of the stars, burlap and funky ribbon.

Burlap, a bit of ribbon and a big red star = Xmas wreath awesomeness!

And here's my new BFF Sharanya who beamed with sparkly vibes. She's a keeper!

Big thanks to Tammie and Erin at New Westminster Public Library for inviting me to craft with them! Here's to the beginnings of a kick butt partnership.

And thanks to all the participants! You guys rocked it!

I even got gifties! Xmas ornaments for my place. So darn sweet!

Stay tuned - I'll be crafting again in 2017 with New Westminster Public Library. Yay!

A super festive Xmas Crafternoon with NVCL

My latest and greatest Xmas Crafternoon with North Vancouver City Library took place on December 10 and was a blast! Our upcycling workshop involved upcycling cereal boxes, toilet paper rolls, scrap felt and donated metal stars into festive decor.

We had 40+ participants. It was actually quite chill after the Halloween Crafternoon where we had 60+ participants. I got to see some of my FAV crafty peeps like Sanam.

And our craft renegade popped in! We can always count on him to show up, create and be part of making the workshop awesome.

We had new crafters who made awesomeness happen. This is a Xmas ornament made from upcycled cereal boxes and scrap felt.

I had a couple of coffee tins left over from my upcycling workshop with Surrey Libraries. A daughter/mother team took on the challenge of making the tin can pretty and they rocked it!

Cookie cutters were used to cut out Xmas designs out of the scrap felt.

This is what they came up with! So perfect!

Purdys Chocolatier donated 30 metal stars to one of my North Vancouver City Library peeps. We used them for the Crafternoon... The kids loved them and it was kewl to see the different projects. This is a Santa in the works.

One of my kick butt crafters made this... A bit of paint, some bells and then stars and moons made this star out of this world!

Pink, glitter and white pom poms made for a very sweet star.

White paint and glittery tissue paper for this one...

And sometimes you don't need to do much to make something you're super thrilled with.

Yup - big thumbs up from this guy! He loved his project.

Sanam tried the upcycled toiler paper roll and scrap felt Xmas tree. It's sparkly and awesome just like her! She called it her crazy disco tree - everyone was in awe of her creativity.

One of my happiest regulars made this. He was replicating the toy box in the photo on the phone in front.

Then he wrapped it... This guy is such a joy to craft with!

And this is my most exuberant crafter... She dives right in, makes craft magic then helps with the clean up.

I brought some fabric that I've had for years... We had a few people make Xmas stocking pilllows. The stocking was filled with the bits of felt so nothing was wasted! Great idea!

Happy crafters!!

One of my new crafters who just shone after making his star. This is why I love my upcycling workshops... This little boy walked around with the star around his neck with the biggest smile.

Old friends who made it to the workshop.

And then there are those that don't miss a Crafternoon and tell me they'll be coming to all of my workshops. Feeling the love FB peeps!

Not only did the kids kick craft butt but so did the moms! Best Crafternoon ever!

The Crafternoons attract some pretty FAB people... Here are a few of the peeps that make the workshops so kick butt. Thanks to everyone who joined me! Best wishes for a wonderful Xmas and to 2017 - a year of more time together making awesomeness out of 'junk'. xo

Big thanks to Vancouver Foundation for the Neighbourhood Small Grant and supporting the upcycling workshops with North Vancouver City Library.
