Getting my DIY & upcycling mojo in gear

Way back in the spring of 2015, I was crafting like a fiend to get my 40+ DIYs done for 'Raw Crafts'. I had to ship them off before heading to Havana to get married at the end of April. In the midst of all this DIYing, I not only made samples for each project but also extra projects to give RotoVision Books some options for photography, etc. This was one of the extra projects using burlap. It wasn't used in the book but I thought it had potential for my place.

Unfortunately it got a bit damaged due to mailing it from Vancouver to the UK and then back to Vancouver.

I had embroidered a print my BFF Rhonda sent me for the frame. But upon reflection there was too much white going on so I switched out the framed item.

First step was to repair the frame. For this DIY, I restyled a $1 frame from my local thrift store using craft paint, mini tiles and old hardware from the North Vancouver Habitat for Humanity ReStore and upcycled burlap from Agro Cafe.

I then printed a photo of my husband Roly to be featured in the frame. The burst of navy blue and turquoise balanced out with the off-white paint and beige burlap.

I love these mini tiles! I glued them to the frame then painted them. I also got out some sandpaper to give the finish a teeny tiny bit of shabby chic-ing.

I glued burlap to cardboard as the background. I also then used rusty hardware to hang the photo from. Not sure why but I like the affect!

I then used screws and a bit of wire to hang the frame.

For the photo I printed a photo then glued it to cardboard to give it some weight - this way it would hang better. I then punched holes into the top corners and used jute to hang the photo from the rusty hardware.

Here's the back showing the cardboard and holes.

I then hung the photo from the rusty hardware.

And now I have two swanky DIYs to add to my place... Featuring cutie patootie husbands and inspiring quotes in your home are all the rage, aren't they?! I also love the pops of vibrant colour to go with my super duper joyful vibes. Yup 2016 you are pretty darn FAB so far!

And now to finish up some other DIYs in process, clean up my crafty supplies and prep for Crafternoons, a book launch and an author presentation. I'm definitely feeling inspired!
