Sample burlap gift bags in the works

I'm working away on sample projects for tonight's Crafting with 'Crap' continuing ed class at Quest University Canada. Not only are we making awesome gift bags out of burlap but we have a kick butt upcycling artisan joining us... Karen from Endure Upcycled Designs is showing us how to make tote bags out of old t-shirts.

Here's one of my sample gift bags... I made a wine bag that's a bit atrocious so no pics of that! I used a stencil set from the dollar store and a black Sharpie to add some 'love' to the bag. Super cute!

I then stitched up another smaller gift bag - this one would be good for a gift card.

I decided to use an old button then felt appliqué a flower to the front of the bag. I used these cookie cutters as my pattern.

Bright colours on burlap - great combo!

A bit of stitching then added some twine handles... Done!

I used my sewing machine for the bag then hand-stitched the embellishment. Easy peasy! The handles are super basic as well and really suit the look of the gift bag.

It really is an easy gift bag to make...

So now I need to pack up for tonight's class... T-shirts, burlap, stencilling stuff, sewing stuff... Bringing these ribbons I picked up at the Lions Gate Thrift Store for $0.50/each.

Also scored these finds... Thrift stores are da best!

Looking forward to making stuff with my Crafting with 'Crap' students. They are an awesome bunch!
