Oh Tofino - how I love you!

This week I was lucky enough to go to Tofino for a work retreat. I've never been to Tofino before and now I know why people love it there. And I'll definitely be back! My adventure started in Horseshoe Bay on Tuesday morning.

We took the ferry to Nanaimo then had a three hour drive to the house we were staying in. It was right on the beach beside the Wickaninnish Inn on Chesterman Beach. What an unbelievable spot!

First I adventured around Chesterman Beach and found the Carving Shed.

The Carving Shed is part of the Wickaninnish Inn where carver Henry Nolla completed a lot of the carvings found throughout the inn - welcoming doors, fireplace mantles and more. Henry passed away in 2004 but you'll still find the shed open to visitors with work still being produced inside. Here's Christen who works in the shed.

And George ("Feather" George Yearsley) who worked with Henry. He's quite the character!

I didn't have enough time to fully explore Tofino. I found a few lovely hot spots like Swell Juice Bar. They have amazing smoothies! I tried one with banana, peanut butter, espresso and maybe a hint of chocolate in it. Wow! And the people working there were super awesome!

I did some beach combing. Found these neato shells. I brought them back - the beige shell is gorgeous. Maybe I could use them for a craft project? Who knows...

Next was meeting these dudes... They were fishing and managed to score quite a few fish. They offered me a couple but the fish were still alive and squirming around. Yikes! And for a girl whose lacking cooking skills... Well skinning a fish ain't my cup of tea!

Here they are...

My new friend... A lovely Scottish guy who was pretty darn hilarious!

And here are a couple of my work buddies... They're so great!

Kaltrina's a total cutie patootie!

Here's a few of my work crew... They're cheering Kaltrina on while she learns to fly a kite from a kiteboard.

She looks so graceful!

I of course took some artsy fartsy shots of the beach and sunset. This one didn't work out as well as I was hoping. The wind was blowing the sand so it looked pretty mysterious. Alas my photo makes it look like the desert and not the beach. Still very stunning though!

And of course a sunset shot...

I'm definitely heading back to Tofino for longer and for a big adventure... Need to trek around town, meet the locals and maybe try surfing. Such a gorgeous beach!

Goodbye for now Tofino! I'll be back!

And now it's time to get back into the swing of work... You never realize how much you need a break until you feel like you've had one.
