DIY or DIE Felted Heart Workshop

Yesterday I went to my first ever DiyorDie.ca workshop. It was all about making hearts out of felted wool. Yup just in time for Valentine's Day!

The instructor was Barbara Stroud who, like her sister Brigitte, is uber lovely.

The workshop took place at Black Sheep Yarns in Port Moody. Here's all the bright coloured wool Barbara supplied.

We started by testing out the felting needles (note: I broke one and bent two... I was a bad crafter!) and attached yarn to the tester ball. Of course I had to add a cute pink heart!

We used an Ikea ice cube mold for the hearts. For my first felted heart I picked a selection of pinks.

Here are the two I made... My first one is on the right. I added a turquoise heart outline to give the heart a bit of pop. Then I added a bright green thread so I could hang it. The second was a bit more masculine with a range of bright blues and a grey-brown wool.

And here they are all done! One I'm keeping and one I'm giving away for Valentine's Day. Awww so darn sweet!!

Was a great way to spend the afternoon! Definitely check out the DIYorDIE.ca website for future dates and other workshops. Maybe even join me for my workshop!
